11 August 2025, Kuala Lumpur – The Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) has organised the Malaysian Qualifications Agency Awards Ceremony (MQA Awards 2025) to recognise institutions and individuals who excel in academic quality, innovation and governance, covering all higher education sectors including public universities, private universities, polytechnics, community colleges, private colleges and public training institutes. The opening ceremony officiated by Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi was held at the Renaissance Hotel, Kuala Lumpur and was also attended by the Minister of Higher Education, Datuk Seri Diraja Dr. Zambry Abd Kadir; Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Datuk Ts. Mustapha Sakmud; MQA Chairman, Datuk Seri Ir. Dr. Zaini Ujang and MQA Chief Executive Officer, Prof. Datuk Dr. Mohammad Shatar Sabran.
Dato' Prof. Ir. Dr. Ahmad Farhan, Vice-Chancellor of UPM received the Higher Education Provider Excellence Award (PPT): Internal Quality Assurance (IQA) in the Self-Accredited Status University category, presented by the Minister of Higher Education, Datuk Seri Diraja Dr. Zambry Abd Kadir.
In this first-time event, four awards were contested, namely: (1) MQA Awards Main Quality Assurance Award, (2) Higher Education Provider (PPT) Excellence Award: Internal Quality Assurance (IQA) with five categories, namely Universities with Self-Accredited Status; Universities; University Colleges; Private Colleges/Institutes/Academies; and Polytechnics/Community Colleges/Public Training Institutes, (3) HEP Excellence Award: Lifelong Learning (PSH), and (4) HEP Excellence Award: Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) respectively competing in the University/University College category and the College/Institute/Academy/Polytechnic/Community College category. At the ceremony, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) successfully won the Higher Education Provider Excellence Award (PPT): Internal Quality Assurance (IQA) in the Self-Accredited Status University category. UPM was also listed among the Top Five Universities for the Main Quality Assurance Award won by Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN). With this success, UPM Vice-Chancellor, Dato' Prof. Ir. Dr. Ahmad Farhan Mohd Sadullah received the trophy and certificate of excellence presented by the Minister of Higher Education, Datuk Seri Diraja Dr. Zambry Abd Kadir. Also present at the ceremony was UPM's Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic & International), Prof. Ir. Dr. Abd. Rahim Abu Talib, who is also the former Director of the UPM Centre for Quality Assurance (CQA).
