13th February 2026, Serdang —Centre for Quality Assurance (CQA), Universiti Putra Malaysia has organised the EcoSpark CQA programme: Innovation in Soap and Candle Making from Used Oil as one of the initiatives to support sustainable practices and awareness of responsible waste management. This program, organized by the CQA Green Sustainability Committee, aims to expose CQA members to methods of recycling used cooking oil into more beneficial products such as soap and candles. This initiative is also in line with the university's efforts in fostering a culture of green practices and reducing the impact of domestic waste on the environment. Throughout the program, participants had the opportunity to learn basic techniques for processing used oil as well as the practical process of making soap and candles. This activity not only provided a hands-on learning experience, but also opened up a space for participants to understand the potential for innovation from waste materials that are often considered useless. This program also succeeded in creating a positive interaction atmosphere among CQA employees, as well as raising awareness about the importance of practicing a sustainable lifestyle in daily life. Through the organization of this EcoSpark, it is hoped that CQA employees will be able to continue to practice an environmentally friendly approach and contribute to ongoing environmental sustainability efforts. |
