MQA Asia's sole representative invited to UKENIC22

The Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) was honored to be the only representative from Asia invited at the UK ENIC 2022 Conference (UKENIC22) to share its experience of transformation in higher education.

Chief Executive Officer, Prof. Datuk Dr. Mohammad Shatar Sabran said that the golden opportunity was best utilized to highlight the initiatives carried out by MQA in driving excellence in Malaysian higher education, especially during and after the Covid-19 pandemic.

He said that the seminar was attended by 500 participants from various backgrounds in the global higher education arena thus giving a big impact in promoting Malaysia in the eyes of the world.

"After my sharing on the Accreditation of Prior Experience-Based Learning (APEL) and the 'micro-credentials' short course, many showed interest in the two flexible education initiatives that MQA is running.

"It is hoped that the MQA transformation partnership at this conference will be able to attract the interest of the international community to better recognize the quality of the country's higher education and send students to continue their studies in Malaysia," he said after the sharing session at the UKENIC22 conference held at the Queen Elizabeth II Centre, London, today.

With the theme 'Shifting Balance, Changing Models', the conference brought together higher education accreditation bodies and featured a variety of different topics presented through panels, workshops and presentations.

Commenting further, Mohammad Shatar said, being the only representative from Asia invited in the conference is a recognition and respect from foreign countries, especially from the European continent, for the quality of Malaysian higher education.

He said, this narrative also keeps MQA on the right track to become an accreditation body that reaches the 3R level which is Referred, Relevant and Respected.

"This year we want to explore the potential of cooperation with countries from Africa, Central Asia and West Asia, therefore an international platform like this greatly expands the network of global cooperation," he said.
