Change Teaching and Learning Tools

Any agreed aspects of the policy need to be continued, but at the same time the country's education system needs change because it is dynamic.

National Education Figure, Tan Sri Alimuddin Mohd Dom said that among the things that need change is in terms of the use of teaching and learning tools.

According to him, this is because today's education is moving towards digitalisation which places emphasis on the use of information technology (ICT), artificial intelligence (AI), the development of the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) and English.

"In the past we used blackboards and then whiteboards, now we have more sophisticated electronic facilities."

"Changes need to be made because education is dynamic. It changes over time according to the times and needs at the global level, in addition to not being left behind in 21st century education," he said in a statement on Thursday.

Previously, one of the conclusions of the latest program published by Sinar Harian, Meja Bulat, was that the country's education system must be consistent and cannot constantly change.

The Round Table is a discussion program to create resolutions entitled The Malaysian Education System: After 60 years, where did it go wrong? as well as discussing the challenges and improvements to the national education system in line with transformation.

The discussion, hosted by former Secretary-General of the Ministry of Education Malaysia (MOE), Tan Sri Dr Zulkurnain Awang, was also lined up with great panelists such as former Minister of Education, Datuk Dr Mohd Radzi Md Jidin; former Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Datuk Dr Masrizal Muhammad and Associate Professor of the School of Politics and International Relations, University of Nottingham Malaysia, Dr Tricia Yeoh.

Alimuddin added that every change not only comes from educators, but also suggestions from outside parties such as parents and the community.

"After all, the ministry has a policy research division, so I believe they will conduct studies before making changes depending on the needs. All of this is done for the sake of the nation's children as well."

"So, we as the public need to give full support to the government. It's not like there are changes in our education system every month," he said.

He believes, however, that not everything needs to be changed and that there are things that need to be consistent according to established policies to avoid confusion or misunderstandings among educators, parents and students.

According to him, at the ministry level, there is already a written policy that is clearly stated on matters related to education.

"It is an offence to do anything that is contrary to the prescribed acts and regulations," he said.
