Fake Certificate: Check Before Being Tricked

People in this country are advised not to be easily deceived by advertisements or offers of fake certificates that are rampant again in this country.

Chief Executive Officer of the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA), Prof. Datuk Dr. Mohammad Shatar Sabran said, the involvement of this activity is wrong in law and invites unwanted risks to sellers, buyers and employers who recruit holders of these fake qualification certificates.

He said, for the higher education level, MQA is the body responsible for regulating the quality of academic programmes at local (IPT) higher education institutions.

He said, for graduates from abroad, his party has a network of international accreditation bodies that can check the validity of a person's qualifications.

“ This review is important especially for employers who want to get confirmation of the qualifications of candidates applying for jobs in their respective companies.

“ It is hoped that the public will not be easily deceived by this fake certificate advertisement because it is a matter that harms individuals from a financial aspect and further gives a bad image to those involved because it is a form of fraud,” said.

He said this when commenting on the front page report of a newspaper titled ‘Buy a PhD Certificate of RM4,000’, today.

Commenting further, Mohammad Shatar said, in general, the sale of fake certificates at the higher education level is nothing new because it has been happening since the 1980s in the United States (AS) and is being sold openly.

He said, if the community receives advertisements or offers that are ‘ too good to be true’ in the context of higher education qualification certificates, it is advised to refer to MQA first so as not to be entangled with the deception of fake certificate syndicates.

He added that for the review of academic programmes, the public can refer directly to the Malaysian Qualifications Register (MQR) through the link https://www2.mqa.gov.my/mqr/ or for the doctoral degree/honorary degree level, review can be done through the portal provided by the Department of Higher Education (JPT) ie https://dohe.mohe.gov.my/award/

“ In today's digital world, it is difficult for us to contain all the information that comes especially from social media, but checks can be made either through MQA, JPT or directly to the relevant IPT.

“ At MQA, we do not want Malaysian community to be deceived by this syndicate that makes millions of ringgit in profit because the ‘investment’ they issue will be in vain because the certificate issued is invalid,” said.
