Students from China Choose Malaysia for Higher Education

Malaysia is one of the top destinations for students from China to pursue higher education.

Chief Executive Officer of the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA), Prof. Datuk Dr. Mohammad Shatar Sabran, said the matter was driven by various factors including the reasonable cost of living and studies in addition to the close diplomatic relations between the two countries.

He said that students from China recorded the highest number of applications to study at higher education institutions (HEIs) in this country and that reflected their confidence in the quality of Malaysian education.

"In an effort to strengthen educational initiatives with China, MQA also established cooperation with the Chinese Service Center For Scholarly Exchange (CSCSE) by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen cooperation in the field of quality assurance and evaluation.

"The collaboration emphasizes the mutual commitment of both entities to maintain standards of excellence and promote mutual recognition of recognized qualifications and programs," he said.

Commenting further, Mohammad Shatar said, MQA and CSCSE are involved in various collaborative efforts including facilitating the exchange of information and expertise on the national qualification framework as well as the accreditation process promoting international cooperation for the recognition of qualifications and skills acquired through higher education.

He said, the collaboration also focuses on developing a transparent mechanism for the evaluation and recognition of qualifications obtained through international education collaboration.

He said, to strengthen academic exchanges and partnerships between educational institutions in Malaysia and China and share research findings and best practices in the field of quality assurance and evaluation.

"Based on the Study in China portal, the joint recognition mechanism of academic programs to promote cooperation in higher education facilitates student mobility between the two countries.

"Through the cooperation signed with CSCSE, the qualification agency from China recognizes all programs that have been accredited by MQA, this initiative is able to attract more students from that country to Malaysia," he said.
