Rapid changes in technology and global market needs demand a more innovative and flexible approach to education. Minister of Higher Education, Datuk Seri Raja Dr. Zambry Abd. Kadir said that higher education institutions (HEIs) need to quickly adapt to technological advances such as artificial intelligence (AI), as well as the growing need for digital skills in the job market. He said, higher education is now at an important crossroads where future success depends on our ability to innovate and adapt to technological change. He said, the balance between academic quality and the marketability of graduates is also important, especially with the rapid progress in digital technology that demands a curriculum that focuses more on critical thinking and creativity. “Malaysia has embarked on a bold journey to emerge as a leader in artificial intelligence (AI) with the recent launch of several major programs aimed at enhancing the AI ecosystem for economic growth and societal well-being. "Among the initiatives announced is the MY AI NEXUS program, an effort led by the Ministry of Higher Education (KPT) that aims to develop 200,000 AI experts by 2030 and Malaysia is committed to becoming a leader in the field of artificial intelligence by strengthening collaboration between the academic sector and global industry ,” he said when speaking at the opening ceremony of the Malaysian Qualification Agency International Conference (MQAIC) 2024, here, today. The text of his speech was read by the Director General of Higher Education, Datuk Prof. Dr. Azlinda Azman. At the opening ceremony, a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) exchange session was also held between MQA and Quality and Qualifications Ireland; MQA and South African Qualifications Authority as well as MQA and National Accreditation and Quality Assurance Authority, The Gambia. Themed 'Global Quality Higher Education', the second MQAIC organized by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency was attended by more than 400 participants including representatives from 15 embassies and academic leaders from local and foreign HEIs from Ireland, Scotland, France, the United Kingdom, Romania, Japan, Indonesia, Australia, Philippines, South Africa, Gambia, China, Taiwan and India. Also present, Deputy Secretary General (Management and Development), Ministry of Higher Education (KPT), Datuk Mohamad Azhan Md. Amir; Chief Executive Officer of MQA; Prof. Grandfather Dr. Mohammad Shatar Sabran; Chairman of the University Board of Directors, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) Tan Sri Panglima Sulong Matjeraie and Vice Chancellor of UNIMAS University, Prof. Dr. Ahmad Hata Rasit.
