Ministry Guarantees University Place for disabled student with Straight As



		The Higher Education Ministry said disabled students who got all A's in the Malaysian Higher School Certificate (STPM) will be given public university places following concerns raised by the MCA president, Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong. Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir said the case involved an excellent science student whose application for an engineering course was rejected due to his physical condition. He admitted that the rejection was due to the institution lacking the necessary facilities. However, Dr Zambry said such excuses were unacceptable and pledged policy changes to make public universities more inclusive for people with disabilities. "We cannot allow excuses like 'we don't have the facilities'. We must change university policies to ensure greater inclusion for disabled students.
