CQA Participation in the Basic Quality Assurance Workshop Organized by MQA

1st April 2026, Cyberjaya – Centre for Quality Assurance (CQA), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) participated in the Basic Quality Assurance Workshop organised by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) on 1 to 2 April 2026 at Mercu MQA.

This workshop aims to provide basic exposure on the principles, practices and requirements of quality assurance in higher education in line with the standards set by MQA. This program was attended by 40 participants representing higher education institutions with self-accreditation status to strengthen understanding and share best practices in the implementation of academic quality assurance.

UPM was represented by two officers from CQA, namely Assoc. Prof. Dr. Syamilah Zakaria, Director of CQA and Puan Rahmawati Umar, Head of Program Registration Section. This participation is seen as a proactive step in ensuring that the officers involved are always aware and competent of current requirements related to quality assurance, thus supporting the university's efforts in maintaining excellent academic standards.

Throughout the workshop, participants were exposed to various important topics including an introduction to the quality assurance framework, accreditation application procedures and the implementation of program accreditation assessments for various qualification levels including pre-university, diploma, master's and doctoral. In addition, participants were also given exposure to the program assessment decision-making process and compliance with requirements.

The workshop also included discussions on the performance management of the Program Assessment Agency (APP), as well as the process of program management, submission and registration. A debriefing session at the end of the workshop provided an opportunity for participants to summarize their understanding and discuss practical issues in implementing quality assurance in their respective institutions.

According to the Director of CQA, "This workshop is very important and helps me understand the quality assurance process at MQA, which in turn can make improvements at CQA to ensure that CQA's role as a mini MQA can be strengthened."

It is hoped that this participation can provide added value to UPM's CQA in strengthening the implementation of the academic quality assurance system, in line with the university's aspirations to continue to excel at the national and international levels.
