Office of the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni)

The Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni) manages student affairs and alumni, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). This office is headed by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni) and assisted by the Head of Administration (Student Affairs and Alumni) in administrative coordination.

In an effort to provide excellent services to UPM students and alumni, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni) is also closely assisted by the Heads of Centres of Responsibility under student affairs and alumni entities, such as the Head of Student Affairs Division (BHEP), UPM Head of Counseling Division (BKUPM), Head of Housing and Placement Division (BPP), Director of the Co-Curriculum and Student Development Centre (PKPP), Director of Centre of Entrepreneurial Development and Graduate Marketability (CEM), Director of Alumni Relations Centre (ARUPM), Head of Sports Centre (PS), Principals of Residential Colleges, and Deputy Commander of the Uniformed Bodies (PALAPES, SUKSIS Corps & SISPA Corps).

Besides that, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni) also plays an essential role in supporting the Vice-Chancellor in moving the university's leadership towards achieving the university's strategic goals, especially concerning the development of the character of graduates resiliently facing the challenges outlined in Goal 1 of the UPM Strategic Plan 2021 – 2025.

Strengthening self-esteem, unity, and patriotism in line with the National Aspiration are among the objectives that must achieve in UPM's effort to develop the character of competitive graduates in facing the challenges ahead. Involvement of students in activities that lead to the construction of a versatile and resilient nature in meeting the challenges ahead.

Character building encompasses the values of patriotism, unity and noble values that lead to the ability of students to express a balanced human personality physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually and have a sense of belonging and loyalty to the country. The student programmes and activities are designed and organised to unify racial and religious diversity. The consolidation displayed by the group of students is plurally demonstrated through their relationship, inculcating the values of mutual respect and love that lead to social or community cohesion.

Developing Holistic Graduate Character and Potential, especially in entrepreneurship, volunteerism, leadership, organisational communication, emotional well-being, physical health and soft skills, are also initiatives to develop the character of competitive graduates in facing the challenges ahead.

The entrepreneurship initiative through PUTRAPRENEUR® is focusing on moving a big idea of entrepreneurship by empowering the construction of an integrated entrepreneurial ecosystem, which can shift the students' minds from job seekers to job creators. This effort will indirectly enhance quality human capital, have high entrepreneurial attributes and values, and thus contribute to the marketability of UPM graduates.

PUTRAHOLISTIK® is focusing on enhancing the aspects of student leadership through the management and administration of the organisation, membership in the highest positions of power at the University and Responsibility Centre (PTJ) level, and organising programmes/activities in collaboration with the University PTJ, external agencies and the industry whether in or outside the country. The art of student self-leadership related to the goal of life emphasises cultivating the spiritual, physical, emotional and intellectual can be developed together.
